The Coalition’s mission is to advocate for Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR)/Institutional Development Award (IDeA) programs to Congress. Primary research areas of interest are the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Defense (DOD), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the Department of Agriculture. Established in 1979, the EPSCoR/IDeA Coalition’s primary purpose, on behalf of its members, is to pursue the following:

Increase the financial and governmental support available to its Membership for scientific and engineering research and for related educational activities,

Publicize the objectives and relevant activities of the Coalition and its Members,

Seek to influence the activities of the local, state, and federal governments on behalf of the Coalition’s Membership, and

Seek to develop mutually beneficial relationships among private sector organizations, government agencies, universities and not-for-profit research institutes, and the Coalition’s Membership.
EPSCoR or EPSCoR-like programs exist at several federal agencies:
